US CENTCOM Map Sparks Turkish Claims of Two-State Solution Validation in Cyprus
A map published by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has been presented by Turkish newspaper Star as showing the northern part of Cyprus with distinct borders, which the paper argues supports Ankara’s long-standing position on a two-state solution to the Cyprus issue. The map, according to Star, distinctly marks the boundary between the north and south of Cyprus and is interpreted as giving "flesh and bones" to Turkey’s proposal.
While Star interprets the map as a deliberate political statement supporting Turkey’s claims, CENTCOM has not indicated any change in US policy or recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The newspaper also linked the map to broader regional Turkish policies, including national maritime parks in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, framing these as part of Turkey’s "Blue Homeland" strategy.
Turkish state media emphasized Ankara’s resolve in defending what it sees as its maritime rights amid regional disputes.
