Registered motor vehicles in Cyprus reach 1.1 million, nearly matching population
The number of registered motor vehicles in Cyprus has reached 1.1 million, nearly equal to the island's population, according to recent data from the Cypriot Statistical Service. Between January and July, 34,787 new and second-hand vehicles were added to the roads, highlighting a significant increase in vehicle registrations.
This year has seen a notable rise in vehicle sales compared to 2023, with an 11.5% increase in new vehicle sales. Last year's total number of new vehicle sales was 52,508, indicating strong growth in the automotive market this year.
The sharp increase in vehicle registrations underscores a trend towards rising car ownership in Cyprus, reflecting economic factors and consumer demand for new and used vehicles on the island.
