CySEC Alerts Cyprus Fund Managers to Upcoming EU-Wide Risk Management Review Starting Late 2026
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has informed local investment fund managers about a forthcoming European Union-wide review focusing on risk management practices among investment firms. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) will lead the 2026 Common Supervisory Action (CSA), involving CySEC and other national regulators, with local checks expected to commence in late 2026 or early 2027. This will include targeted thematic reviews and on-site inspections of UCITS management companies and alternative investment fund managers (AIFMs) in Cyprus.
The review aims to assess not just the existence but the effectiveness, independence, and expertise of risk management functions, along with how risks such as market, credit, liquidity, and operational risks are identified, monitored, and reported to senior management. CySEC highlighted the importance of these controls as central to investor protection and financial stability.
Cyprus fund managers are urged to evaluate their current risk management arrangements for appropriateness, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance ahead of the supervisory work. The initiative reflects ESMA’s goal to harmonize supervisory practices across EU financial markets and underscores a continued regulatory emphasis on robust internal controls within Cyprus’s sizable investment fund sector.
