British Bases on Full Alert to Protect Migratory Birds from Illegal Trapping
The British bases in Cyprus have declared a state of full alert ahead of the Ambelopoulia migratory season starting at the end of August. The Community Action Team (CAT) is actively identifying and dismantling illegal bird trapping installations in the Eastern British bases to prevent poaching activities.
Yiannakis Loucas, head of the unit, emphasized the readiness of his team to take strong action against those using nets and deadly snares. Authorities plan to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders involved in illegal trapping.
The bases police are working closely with Cyprus police's anti-poaching unit, the game and fauna service, local authorities, and environmental organizations. Utilizing advanced technology, including automatic plate recognition systems and drones, the CAT aims to protect wildlife through October 31. The public is urged to report any suspicious activities confidentially.
