Police Investigate Online Loan Scam Involving €10,000 Fraud in Nicosia
Police are investigating a case of online fraud that resulted in a woman losing €10,000 after responding to a fake loan advertisement. The victim found the advertisement on a social media platform and was asked to provide personal details via a link. She was then contacted by unknown individuals who instructed her to transfer €10,000 as a guarantee to secure the loan.
The suspects facilitated the transaction by sending the victim a QR code for the money transfer. After completing the payment, the woman realized she had been scammed and filed a complaint with the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department. Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution when dealing with unfamiliar individuals or organizations online and recommend verifying credentials before making any payments.
