Couple Rescued from Drowning off Limassol After Swimming Incident
A Nepalese couple was rescued from drowning off Limassol on Sunday after the man, a weak swimmer, got into trouble and grabbed hold of his wife in panic, putting both their lives at risk. The incident occurred around 5:30 pm in the Akti Olympion area when the 25-year-old man attempted to swim back to shore from the rocks but began sinking.
Lifeguards who had already identified the man as a weak swimmer swiftly responded with a rescue board along with assistance from nearby members of the public. The adjacent lifeguard station equipped with a jet ski was also alerted. Thanks to the quick intervention, both were safely brought ashore, and the man received first aid but did not require further medical treatment.
The Limassol lifeguard unit cautioned against swimming in difficult or rocky areas without adequate skills and advised people to stay calm and call for help if in difficulty, instead of grabbing another person, as this increases risk for multiple casualties.
