Cyprus MEP urges Serbian President to stop Nexus music festival at Kyrenia Castle
Disy MEP Loukas Fourlas has called on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to intervene and halt the planned Nexus electronic music festival set for September 18 at Kyrenia Castle. Fourlas warned that holding the event in the occupied north would legitimise the administration there and undermine the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus.
Kyrenia Castle holds significant historical and cultural importance, and Fourlas stressed that using it for a large music festival organised by Serbian company EXIT Festival, with involvement from entities in the occupied area, could normalize illegal separatist structures. While supporting cultural exchange, he emphasized that culture should not be exploited to recognize or strengthen such illegal authorities.
Continuing his efforts, Fourlas has also engaged with the Cypriot embassy in Serbia to raise the issue with Serbian officials. He urged Serbia to uphold its consistent support for Cyprus's territorial integrity by ensuring no Serbian organisation contributes to legitimising the occupation. Fourlas remains actively involved in preventing the event from proceeding.
