Paphos Mayor urges immediate action on unauthorized hillside excavation at Anavargos
Paphos Mayor Angelos Onisiforou has called for urgent intervention after unauthorized excavation work was reported between Anavargos and Armos. The mayor claims that a hillside is being extensively demolished without the necessary planning permits, with the work continuing even during the holiday period. He accused the property owner of exploiting the holiday to carry out the works undisturbed.
The controversial excavation involves large-scale levelling and deep cuts into a private plot, raising environmental concerns. Despite previous orders to halt the work, the owner has not complied. Charalambos Pittokopitis, president of the Paphos district government organisation, announced that a decree to suspend the work is being prepared due to the absence of required planning permission.
Mayor Onisiforou described the situation as unacceptable and emphasized the urgency of protecting the environment surrounding the site. Authorities are now being urged to act swiftly to address the ongoing violations and prevent further damage.
