Larnaca’s Pattichio Municipal Park reopens with new facilities and eco-friendly upgrades
Larnaca’s Pattichio Municipal Park has officially reopened to the public following an eight-month delay. The extensive upgrade, costing over €6.6 million and co-funded by the European Union, introduced new walking and cycling paths, viewing points, a playground, and a botanical garden. The redesign prioritised environmental respect and a stronger connection with the nearby salt lake wetland, featuring an elevated circular footbridge around the amphitheatre that offers scenic views, including popular sunset spots.
The park, the largest in Larnaca, also includes upgraded infrastructure such as lighting, walkways, entrances, and new facilities like parking spaces and accessible toilets. Enhancements extend to the adjacent Pattichio Amphitheatre, which now has new seating and 24-hour security patrols. The municipality highlighted that the park will serve residents and visitors for exercise, cultural events and socialising in a revitalised, natural setting.
After initial community concerns about excessive concrete use, the project was adjusted to reinforce green spaces and sustainability. The official opening ceremony is expected in October or November, with local mayor Andreas Vyras noting generally positive public feedback so far.
