Colombia earthquake survivor Daniela Largo dies after 37 hours trapped under rubble
Daniela Largo, a 32-year-old woman who survived nearly 37 hours trapped under collapsed building rubble following the devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Pereira, Colombia, has died in hospital, her family confirmed. Her rescue last Tuesday had been a beacon of hope for many in the earthquake-hit region.
The earthquake, the strongest in Colombia this century, struck on Monday morning and has resulted in at least 294 deaths and almost 4,000 injuries. Pereira and Cali were among the worst-affected areas. Rescuers continue to dig through debris, searching for more than 320 people still missing.
Largo leaves behind a 12-year-old son, as the community mourns her passing and continues relief efforts. Heavy machinery is being used to clear collapsed structures, while citizens provide emotional and material support to survivors in shelters.
