Former Disy leader Averof Neophytou has strongly criticized President Nikos Christodoulides and the government's handling of the Cyprus issue, warning against political calculations undermining negotiation progress. Speaking on Alpha TV, Neophytou expressed concern that Christodoulides did not fully grasp the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' conditions for convening a multilateral conference on Cyprus, which require substantive progress on key discussion points.
Neophytou accused the president of politicizing the process, suggesting that some political actors may be prioritizing future electoral gains over genuine conflict resolution. He also condemned the government’s failure to advance on opening new crossing points between the two communities, calling it an unnecessary obstacle that could jeopardize efforts toward a solution.
