Severe storm causes damage and evacuations in Trikomo area

A severe storm struck Trikomo on Sunday, causing significant damage and prompting evacuation of beaches as a precaution. The worst impact was reported around the villages of Ayios Iakovos and Arnadi, according to Turkish Cypriot media. Strong winds damaged the Ayios Iakovos hunting club building, while in Arnadi, fallen electricity poles sparked a small fire that was quickly extinguished.

The firefighting response inadvertently damaged a main water pipe, temporarily cutting off water supply to Arnadi until repairs were completed. Authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and crews remain on-site working to restore electricity and water services.

The storm comes amid a period of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms affecting Cyprus, exacerbating challenges for emergency response teams in the region.
