Cypriot woman's heart successfully transplanted to Israeli patient after fatal road accident

A young Cypriot woman who tragically died in a road traffic accident became an organ donor, saving the life of a 45-year-old woman in Israel. The recipient had been waiting nearly two years for a heart transplant. The transplant operation was completed successfully on Friday afternoon at Beilinson Hospital following a complex logistical operation initiated within 26 hours of the donation notice.

Four surgical teams worked simultaneously: the Israeli team retrieved the heart, while teams from Cyprus and Greece managed the lungs, liver, and kidneys. After the procedure, the Israeli delegation was swiftly transported by helicopter to Larnaca Airport, and the organ arrived in Israel just in time for surgery. Surgeons confirmed the success, praising the quality of the donated heart and expressing gratitude to their Cypriot colleagues.
