Cyprus is making significant strides in space exploration, with the Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO) preparing to launch the country’s first cube satellite. This milestone comes 14 years after Cyprus began building its space sector, marking a transformation from an idea once dismissed to a respected participant in international space networks. Cyprus has already achieved associate membership status with the European Space Agency (ESA) and collaborates with major agencies including NASA and Lockheed Martin.
Led by president George Danos, who founded CSEO in 2012, the organisation focuses on education, research, innovation, and international cooperation. The satellite to be launched will be equipped with a camera to detect wildfires and sensors related to space health and space weather, reflecting Cyprus's priorities and challenges.
