Erhürman affirms Turkish Cypriots will never renounce equality and security amid safety concerns
Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman addressed the community's safety concerns during ceremonies held today in Maratha, Sandalari, and Aloa, emphasizing that they will never relinquish their equality, security, and rights on the island. Wreaths were laid and a moment of silence observed in memory of the victims at the memorials in these locations.
In his speech, Erhürman linked the events of 1974 with current Turkish Cypriot security fears, stating these concerns must be evaluated in light of past occurrences. He vowed that the Turkish Cypriot side will continue to defend their cause on all platforms and keep the memory of these events alive.
Additionally, Turkish Cypriot “Prime Minister” Ünal Üstel highlighted that August 14 symbolizes heroism, resistance, and deep sorrow for Turkish Cypriots. He affirmed that with Turkey’s support, they continue their path with steadfast determination.
