Independent investigation launched into Ioanna Fotiou's allegations against seven Cypriot police officers
An independent criminal investigation has been initiated following allegations made by Ioanna Fotiou, also known as Annie Alexui, accusing seven police officers in Cyprus of misconduct and corruption. The complaints, first submitted in April, are now being examined by two appointed criminal investigators under the oversight of the Independent Authority for the Investigation of Complaints against the Police (Aadipa).
Fotiou has publicly implicated senior figures including deputy police chiefs Michalis Katsounotos and Panikos Stavrou, citing claims of corruption, protection of criminal interests, and failures to investigate serious cases properly. She has also referenced unresolved high-profile cases such as the 2012 death of a 17-year-old in Limassol and alleged footage depicting bribery, though no charges have been filed and prior internal investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing.
Currently abroad, Fotiou plans to provide evidence remotely and asserts she possesses extensive recorded material beyond her initial complaints. The Justice Minister emphasized that allegations must follow legal channels rather than social media. This investigation runs separately from prior arrest warrants issued against Fotiou related to other complaints by police officers and officials.
