Report on pet hotels in Cyprus to be completed by early September
A comprehensive report on the status of pet hotels in Cyprus, focusing mainly on dog accommodations, is expected to be completed by early September, environment and animal welfare commissioner Elias Myrianthous announced. The study aims to identify the number of pet hotels operating legally and those without licenses to improve future regulation of animal boarding facilities.
The veterinary officer assigned to prepare the report currently works part-time but will transition to full-time by September 1, enabling the report's completion within the first ten days of the month. Since taking office, Myrianthous has received no complaints regarding poor treatment at pet hotels.
In addition to pet hotel regulations, Myrianthous highlighted the critical shortage of animal shelters across Cyprus, noting ongoing discussions with local authorities, particularly in Paphos. While the greater Nicosia area is better equipped with animal shelters, improved coordination between local governments and government services is essential to advance shelter development projects.
