In a separate incident, a man in Koutrafas is being prosecuted for burning stubble in his orchard located within the forest buffer zone, an area outside forestry department jurisdiction but under police investigation. The fire was quickly put out by the forestry department. Forestry department spokesman Glafkos Kyriacou noted that patrols have increased significantly during the summer months, and the past few days have been calm overall. The department urges the public to report any suspicious activity and reminds that causing fires is a criminal offense with severe penalties.
