Police warn public about €10,000 online loan scam via social media ads

Police have issued a warning following a woman’s loss of €10,000 to an online loan scam promoted through social media advertisements. The victim clicked on an electronic link in the advert, which led her to a fraudulent website where she input her personal details, including her phone number. On July 24, unknown individuals contacted her and requested a €10,000 transfer to secure the loan, sending her a QR code to facilitate the payment. After completing the transaction, the woman realized she had been scammed and promptly reported the incident to the police. Authorities have launched an investigation, urging the public to be cautious when responding to online loan offers and to verify the legitimacy of such ads before sharing personal information or making any payments.
