Remedica recalls 12 medicines with no alternatives for seven amid August holiday closures

Remedica has voluntarily recalled 137 batches of 12 medicines due to stability issues, with seven of these lacking available substitutes on the market, the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) informed healthcare providers. The recall comes as many doctors are on August holidays and over half of pharmacies have closed, making access to medical advice difficult for patients.

Pharmaceutical Services director Elena Panagiotopoulou urged patients not to stop their treatment without consulting a doctor, emphasizing that the recall does not warrant interruption of therapy. The Cyprus Federation of Patients’ Associations also expressed concern about the timing, warning that patients might discontinue medication if unable to reach their doctors.

The HIO detailed that while five recalled medicines have direct alternatives, seven—including Clonotril, Cloxacillin, Hydralazine, Methyldopa, and Epsitron—do not. Replacements need medical assessment and prescriptions, and patients are advised to return recalled products to pharmacies and consult healthcare professionals before making any changes.
