Larnaca's Kamares anti-flood project progressing ahead of schedule with completion expected before July 2027
Larnaca's anti-flood works in the Kamares area are advancing ahead of schedule, with completion now expected before the July 2027 deadline, according to the city’s district self-government organisation (EOA). The project aims to reduce flood risks in residential zones of Larnaca and Aradippou following devastating floods in December 2014 that caused extensive damage.
Originally planned for state execution in 2015, the project was delayed and responsibility transferred to the Larnaca sewerage board in 2023 as part of local administration reforms. Since then, efforts have focused on removing obstructions in the river and constructing pedestrian infrastructure to improve water flow and flood protection.
Looking ahead, the EOA plans to expand the anti-flood infrastructure to safeguard the developing Vergina residential area. The Kamares project is viewed as a critical measure to enhance public safety, protect properties, and support Larnaca's ongoing growth and modernization.
