Cyprus celebrates strong showings at World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon
The Pancyprian Gymnastic Association (GSP) has praised Cypriot athletes for their impressive performances at the 21st World Athletics U20 Championships held in Oregon, USA. Alexandros Ghamrawi excelled in the men's hammer throw, finishing seventh globally with a best final throw of 72.09 meters after qualifying with 72.38 meters. Anthi Apostolidou, the youngest competitor in the women's hammer throw, placed 18th with a best mark of 55.19 meters, marking an important milestone as she remains eligible for the 2028 championships.
Additionally, Marina Hadjicosta secured a bronze medal in the discus throw with a 54.88-meter mark, Cyprus's fifth-ever medal in the history of the event, highlighting the nation's growing presence in athletics. The GSP extended congratulations to the athletes' coaches for their vital contributions to the competitors' development.
