Cyprus Biotech Innovator Marianna Prokopi-Demetriades Wins 2026 Global Study UK Alumni Award for Business and Innovation

Marianna Prokopi-Demetriades, a Cyprus-based biotech entrepreneur, has been named the global winner of the 2026 Study UK Alumni Awards in the Business and Innovation category. She progressed from winning the national award in Cyprus to becoming one of only four global winners selected from more than 1,800 applications across 120 countries. The award recognises her pioneering work in oncology-related biotechnology and her role in driving global impact from Cyprus.

Prokopi-Demetriades co-founded three biotech companies—Theramir, Promed Bioscience, and RSL Revolutionary Labs—focusing on personalised cancer therapies, medical biomaterials, and patient recovery products respectively. Her ventures have raised over €8 million, secured major international agreements, and fostered a local biotech cluster that trains scientists. Alongside her entrepreneurial work, she has mentored more than 200 young people, underscoring her commitment to innovation and development in Cyprus.

Her academic background includes studies at the University of Kent, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and King’s College London. Prokopi-Demetriades described the global award as both an incredible honour and a responsibility to continue pushing boundaries in science and entrepreneurship. She expressed gratitude to her supporters and looks forward to collaborating with other award finalists to further biotechnology advancement.
