British Bases Police Arrest 27 in Summer Crime Prevention Operations
The British Bases (SBA) police arrested 27 individuals for various offences during coordinated summer operations across the eastern and western SBAs. These efforts aim to prevent crime, enhance road safety, and maintain public order during the busy holiday season. Over 158 fixed penalty notices and written cautions for traffic violations were issued, with 17 cases of more serious infractions still under investigation. Seven drivers tested positive in 73 breathalyser tests conducted as part of the operations.
The SBA police marine unit, equipped with new jet skis for beach patrols, has been actively involved in these activities. Dhekelia temporary superintendent Marcos Petrou emphasized the continuation of operations throughout the peak August holiday, focusing police presence where it can most improve public safety. Both Petrou and Akrotiri superintendent Melina Papagregoriou urged residents and holidaymakers to take precautions against theft, secure homes and vehicles, and report suspicious activity, highlighting the importance of vigilance to reduce acquisitive crime during the holiday period.
