Persona Theatre Group to present multilingual 'Seven Against Thebes' on September 2 in Nicosia
Following successful summer performances in Nicosia and Limassol, Persona Theatre Group will stage Aeschylus’s “Seven Against Thebes” for one additional show on Wednesday, September 2. The performance will begin at 9pm at the Makarios III Amphitheatre at the School for the Blind in Nicosia.
Directed by award-winning Lea Maleni, the play explores the fratricidal conflict between Oedipus’s sons and delves into themes of fear, trauma, and civil strife. Presented as a contemporary interpretation and part of the 29th International Festival of Ancient Greek Drama 2026, the production features seven languages on stage, including Arabic, Farsi, Somali, Hindi, and Serbian, representing regions affected by war and displacement.
The 75-minute show includes Greek and English surtitles and is suitable for audiences aged 12 and older. Supported by the Cyprus Centre of the International Theatre Institute and the Deputy Ministry of Culture, the production highlights the cycle of conflict and collective memory through a multilingual theatrical experience.
