Forestry Department Attributes Recent Fires to Human Activity and Urges Caution Amid High Risk
The forestry department has confirmed that recent fires over the past few days were caused by human activity and could have been avoided. Officials emphasized the heightened risk of wildfires due to high temperatures, prolonged drought, and strong winds, urging the public to exercise extreme caution.
Fires were linked to the use of heat-emitting machinery and tools, agricultural work, and other activities in forested areas. From June 1 to September 30, using equipment that produces sparks or flames near forests is prohibited without written consent from the forestry department, which can be obtained by contacting the nearest forestry station.
The department also expressed concern about intentional fire-setting and requested the public to stay alert and report suspect behavior. Protecting forests is a shared responsibility, and in the event of smoke or fire, citizens are advised to call the forestry department at 1407 or the fire brigade at 112 immediately.
