Residents in Nicosia have reported increased activity of Turkish F-16 fighter jets flying over the area, with sightings and sounds heard on Tuesday. The jets reportedly take off from Tymbou airport in northern Cyprus, fly towards the Pentadaktylos mountain range, and then return to their base. The Cyprus defence ministry confirmed a notable rise in Turkish F-16 flights from Tymbou in recent months.
Similar reports came from the Larnaca region, though no confirmed flights have been recorded there. The ministry has also documented a broader increase in Turkish fighter activity within the Nicosia Flight Information Region in recent days. This escalation follows Turkey's deployment of six F-16s and air defense systems to northern Cyprus on March 9, in response to Greece stationing four F-16s at Paphos' Andreas Papandreou air base earlier that month.
