Paphos woman loses over €4,800 to fraudulent GOVCY scam website
A 26-year-old woman in Paphos fell victim to an online scam after entering her bank card details on a fraudulent website linked through a text message claiming she had an outstanding GOVCY fine. The message, received on Monday, directed her to a fake site where she unwittingly provided her banking information. Subsequently, she discovered that more than €4,800 had been withdrawn from her account. She reported the incident to Paphos CID on Tuesday, and police are actively investigating the fraud and how the money was taken. Authorities urge the public to avoid clicking on links from unknown or suspicious sources and to never enter personal or banking details through such channels.
