Israel accuses Turkey of hypocrisy over military presence in Cyprus and regional activities

Israel's Foreign Ministry has accused Turkey of hypocrisy in its criticism of Israeli military operations, highlighting Turkey's control over 36% of Cyprus and its extensive military presence in the region. The ministry stated that Turkey maintains thousands of troops outside its borders, with military bases in Cyprus, Syria, and Iraq.

The ministry emphasized that Turkey occupies significant portions of Cyprus, Syria, and Iraq, in contrast to Israel’s temporary control of 0.1% of Syrian territory, described as a security zone aimed at protecting Israeli citizens. Additionally, Israel cited its control of the Golan Heights, a strategic area captured from Syria in 1967, noting its status remains a subject of international dispute.

The United Nations continues to recognize the Golan Heights as occupied territory and supports the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, which established a UN-monitored buffer zone between Israel and Syria.
