Cyprus Leads Global Hiring in Online Trading Firms Despite Sector-Wide Recruitment Decline
Cyprus has maintained its position as the top global hiring hub for online trading companies as of mid-2026, hosting 226 job vacancies despite a significant overall reduction in sector recruitment. Research by FYI.LTD. showed Cyprus accounted for 11.1% of all open positions across 92 crypto exchanges, CFD brokers, and proprietary trading firms, surpassing Singapore, Hong Kong, and the UAE.
The study revealed a 27% drop in available jobs from the second to third quarter of 2026, notably severe among CFD brokers but less so among crypto exchanges and prop trading firms. Interestingly, IT roles comprised nearly 30% of Cyprus vacancies, with increasing emphasis on skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation. About one in five jobs advertised in Cyprus referenced AI, reflecting a trend where AI augments rather than replaces fintech jobs.
Cyprus's fintech sector benefits from a supportive licensing regime, tax system, and skilled workforce, positioning it well to evolve into an AI start-up hub. Employers increasingly seek multilingual professionals and mid to senior-level talent familiar with AI tools, underscoring the island's potential to maintain its competitive edge amid shifting industry demands.
