Last-minute bookings help Larnaca tourism recover in August despite early setbacks
Larnaca’s tourism sector is showing signs of recovery in August, driven by an increase in last-minute bookings, despite a year-on-year decline caused by the Middle East conflict. Marios Polyviou, head of the local hoteliers’ association PASYXE, reported that occupancy has reached 75%, up from a difficult July that ended with a 15% drop compared to last year’s figures. The uptick is largely attributed to boosted arrivals from Israel, the largest market for Larnaca, as well as improvements in the British, German, Polish, and Greek markets.
Looking ahead, optimism surrounds the 2027 season following agreements with major UK tour operators TUI and Jet2. These deals are expected to secure a steady flow of British tourists, reinforcing the UK as Larnaca’s second-largest market. Additionally, the completion of phase three of the Dhekelia road network project is poised to benefit the tourism infrastructure by improving access to key hotel areas, potentially enhancing visitor experience and business performance.
