The child's mother accused medical staff of negligence, alleging that despite signs of meningitis and swelling, only antipyretics were initially administered before transfer to Makarios Hospital.
Marios was transferred on July 13 with reassurances his condition was stable, but by the next day he was declared brain dead. The mother expressed profound grief, stating she would have accepted a serious disability over brain death, emphasizing her commitment to pursuing accountability and justice.
The State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) confirmed it launched an investigation on July 28 following the mother's statements. SHSO expressed sympathy for the family and affirmed the case is being handled with seriousness, responsibility, and objectivity according to established protocols.
