Cyprus Building Permits Surge 35% in Early 2026 Driven by Residential Growth
Cyprus saw a significant rise in building activity in early 2026, with the state statistical service (Cystat) reporting a 35.1% increase in the number of building permits issued from January to April compared to the same period last year. A total of 2,915 permits were authorized, including 639 in April alone, covering a combined value of €1.67 billion and 1.35 million square meters of construction.
The residential sector led this growth, recording a 33.6% increase in permits with 2,154 issued during the first four months, including 477 in April. Planned homes rose dramatically by 65% to 7,131 units, with apartment developments accounting for the majority. Non-residential permits and civil engineering projects also experienced growth, though less pronounced.
This surge in permits aligns with Cystat data indicating construction output grew by 0.7% in Q1 2026, while Eurostat reported a 3.8% increase in house sales and a 1.6% rise in house prices, signaling a robust and expanding construction market in Cyprus.
