Cyprus National Guard to unveil advanced air defense and drone systems in independence parade

Cyprus’ National Guard will showcase upgraded military capabilities in a parade on Thursday, celebrating the 66th anniversary of the country’s independence. Highlighting the event will be the debut of the Israeli-made Barak MX air defense system, a significant enhancement to Cyprus' air defense, alongside new unmanned aerial systems and specially modified vehicles with first-person viewing and control features.

For the first time, the parade will include international participation with U.S. and French marines, Egyptian military police, and British soldiers marching alongside Cypriot forces. The event aims to demonstrate the strengthening of Cyprus’ defense ties with allied nations while emphasizing its enhanced military readiness.

Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas noted that this year’s parade will be "upgraded and certainly different from other years," reflecting the National Guard’s commitment to modernizing its capabilities and showcasing its strategic partnerships.
