Cyprus to Celebrate 66th Independence Anniversary with Military Parade and Commemorative Events
Cyprus will mark the 66th anniversary of its independence on Thursday with a traditional military parade in Nicosia, featuring motorised and marching units, aircraft from the National Guard, and contingents from various emergency services. The event, starting at 11am on Iosif Hadjiosif avenue, will be attended by President Nikos Christodoulides, Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas, Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias, and foreign dignitaries from Greece, the UK, Egypt, France, and the United States. The parade will commence with a 21-gun salute.
Earlier in the day, President Christodoulides and House President Annita Demetriou participated in memorial services and wreath-laying ceremonies at the imprisoned graves and the statue of Archbishop Makarios III. Diplomatic representatives will be hosted by the president and first lady Philippa Karsera for a reception at the presidential palace. Additionally, the public can visit the National Guard’s patrol vessel Ioannidis and the Greek navy frigate Nikiforos Fokas docked at Larnaca port from 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm.
