Cyprus increases mountain community allowances to €10.4 million benefiting 24,000
The Cyprus cabinet has approved an increase in allowances for residents of mountain communities, raising the budget from €9 million to approximately €10.4 million. The revised 2026 scheme, aimed at easing inflationary pressures, will benefit around 10,500 households and 24,000 people.
Allowances for residents living at different altitudes have been increased: those between 600 and 800 meters will receive €225 up from €175, between 801 and 1,000 meters will get €275 instead of €225, and communities above 1,000 meters will now receive €310, up from €260. Additional support per household member, pensioner or non-pensioner, will also rise from €165 to €200.
The interior ministry confirmed that the application period has closed, with no new applications accepted. Eligible applicants who have already applied will automatically receive the increased amounts without needing to take further action.
