Trial of suspended Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos postponed due to prosecution witness illness
The trial of suspended Paphos mayor Phedonas Phedonos was postponed on Tuesday after a prosecution witness fell ill. The hearing is now set to resume next Tuesday at the Paphos criminal court where prosecution witnesses will testify and face cross-examination by defence lawyers Christos Pourgouridis and Nontas Korakidis.
Phedonos faces five charges including rape, indecent assault, assault causing actual bodily harm, and administering a substance capable of intoxicating or neutralising a person's resistance. He denies all allegations. The complainant's testimony, expected via video conference, is still pending.
The court proceedings are being conducted behind closed doors at the prosecuting authority's request. Following the prosecution's case, the court will determine if a prima facie case exists to proceed to the next judicial stage.
