New Cypriot drones, heavy armour, and air defence systems showcased at National Guard parade
The upcoming October 1 military parade in Nicosia will prominently feature newly developed Cypriot drones, heavy armour, and air defence systems. For the first time, a dedicated National Guard unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) unit will march, displaying several first-person-view drone systems designed for surveillance and reconnaissance, including a mobile FPV production unit aimed at enhancing field maintenance and autonomy.
Additionally, the parade will introduce the Israeli-made Barak MX air defence system, a significant recent acquisition for Cyprus. Heavy armour such as T-80 and AMX-30B2 tanks, BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, and naval Exocet coastal missile systems will also be presented alongside aircraft flypasts featuring National Guard helicopters and international jets.
Foreign military personnel from Egypt, France, Britain, and the United States will participate on the ground, with US marines and sailors from the USS Mount Whitney also involved. The event underscores Cyprus's efforts to modernize and strengthen its defence capabilities with domestic innovation and international collaboration.
