Direct Democracy Cyprus leader criticizes President Christodoulides’ handling of Cyprus problem

Direct Democracy Cyprus leader Fidias Panayiotou harshly criticized President Nikos Christodoulides for his decade-long career, saying it has produced "no substantial fruit" on resolving the Cyprus problem. Panayiotou highlighted that Christodoulides has held influential positions since 2014, including foreign minister since 2018, yet the Cyprus talks have remained stagnant since the last round in Crans-Montana 111 months ago.

At Wednesday’s National Council meeting, Panayiotou also raised concerns about regional geostrategic risks, including increasing instability due to Iran's rise and potential conflict between Israel and Turkey. He discussed the Great Sea Interconnector project linking Cyprus, Greece, and Israel’s energy grids, emphasizing potential risks without specifying details out of confidentiality.

Panayiotou echoed former DISY leader Averof Neophytou’s view that Christodoulides may be the only president failing to advance the Cyprus issue negotiations, citing ineffective policies and a lack of progress on the longstanding dispute.
