WISTA International President Elpi Petraki strengthens maritime links across Nordic and Baltic countries
Elpi Petraki, president of WISTA International, conducted a series of visits across Denmark, Sweden, and Estonia to reinforce connections within the maritime sector. Her tour included meetings with maritime professionals, students, and industry representatives, focusing on maritime education, technology, leadership, and evolving skill requirements. Highlights included visits to WISTA Denmark, the World Maritime University in Malmo, and WISTA Estonia’s annual event at TalTech Kuressaare College, where she delivered the keynote address.
In Estonia, Petraki also toured Tallinn Shipyard, further exploring industrial aspects of the maritime sector alongside educational and professional networks. The visits emphasized collaboration between various maritime community sectors across the Nordic and Baltic region. WISTA International, with links to Cyprus where its 50th anniversary AGM was recently held, continues to expand its global network, connecting over 6,000 professionals in around 60 countries.
Petraki, also on the Executive Board of the World Maritime University, succeeds previous Cypriot WISTA leaders and reflects the island's prominent role in the organisation. Her efforts underline the importance of aligning maritime education and industry to build a strong talent pipeline for the future.
