Movement of Ecologists urges action on alleged illegal dog confinement on Limassol rooftop since 2022

The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation has demanded prompt action from authorities regarding dogs reportedly kept on a rooftop in Limassol district since 2022. Complaints submitted to various bodies, including the Animal Police and Veterinary Services, allege continuous confinement of the dogs in violation of the Animal Protection and Welfare Law, which prohibits keeping dogs on roofs.

The Ecologists, through their Animal Action Group, presented photos and videos showing poor hygiene and persistent loud barking, raising concerns about the dogs' exposure to harsh weather conditions. Despite repeated complaints backed by evidence, they say no effective enforcement has occurred.

Calling for an immediate investigation, the group insists that if violations are confirmed, authorities must enforce the law, remove the dogs to suitable care facilities, and disclose actions taken so far. They plan to send formal letters with their evidence to relevant state authorities to ensure the welfare of the animals is protected.
