335 buildings in Larnaca district classified as dangerous with 189 highest risk addressed as priority
The Larnaca district local government organisation (EOA) has identified 335 buildings as dangerous, with 189 classified in the highest risk category and being prioritized for intervention. The organisation is actively carrying out hazard removal and demolitions to protect residents and neighbouring properties. Notably, a hazardous abandoned building on Stavrodromiou street in Larnaca was recently demolished at the owner’s expense after repeated EOA actions.
Since taking responsibility on April 1, 2025, the EOA has expanded its register from 563 to 1,101 potentially dangerous buildings following inspections and public reports. So far, 378 visual inspections and 372 technical reports have been completed, resulting in 67 hazard removal actions, including demolitions. Seventeen buildings are formally declared dangerous, with procedures underway for another 22.
The EOA emphasised that building owners are responsible for maintenance and safety measures. When owners comply, the organisation collaborates to remove dangers promptly. In cases of non-compliance, legal measures including demolition are enforced. The EOA remains committed to ensuring that documented dangerous buildings do not remain a threat, prioritising public safety.
