Cyprus Launches Pan-Cypriot Campaign for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention on World Heart Day
The Cyprus Society of Cardiology (CSC) has launched a comprehensive Pan-Cypriot Information, Awareness, and Education Campaign to mark World Heart Day on September 29, emphasizing the importance of preventing cardiovascular diseases before symptoms appear. The initiative, sponsored by Medochemie and backed by the Ministry of Health and the Pancyprian Medical Association, aims to promote early diagnosis, healthy lifestyle choices, and coordinated state action to reduce heart disease risk.
At the campaign’s official launch, Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides highlighted the government's commitment to the recently approved National Strategy for the Management of Cardiovascular Diseases, which focuses on prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and research. CSC President Dr. Evagoras Economides underlined the need for timely recognition of symptoms and consistent public awareness, comparing the urgency to addressing climate change.
With cardiovascular diseases accounting for around one-third of deaths in Cyprus, specialists stress the importance of regular check-ups, monitoring blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, and adopting healthier habits such as balanced diets and quitting smoking. Public engagement will include educational materials, expert advice sessions, and symbolic red illumination of landmarks to reinforce the message: “Don’t miss the pulse of life. Live to its rhythm.”
