Pension Reform Second Pillar Discussions to Start October 6 with Weekly Meetings

Discussions on the second pillar of Cyprus's pension reform are set to begin at the technical committee level on October 6, according to Labour Minister Marinos Mousiouttas. These meetings will occur every Tuesday, aiming to build a framework agreement to present to parliament. Concurrently, the Labour Advisory Body will continue to meet twice weekly, every Monday and Thursday, to support the process.

Mousiouttas emphasized that a separate bill for the second pillar will not be submitted initially. Instead, social partners intend to establish the basic principles and roadmap for its introduction while discussions are ongoing. The minister noted that the pension reform bill would be submitted soon but that the dialogue would continue and adjustments could be made if necessary.

Responding to concerns about the timing of legislation for the second pillar, Mousiouttas stressed that agreement had not yet been reached and implementation is expected to take three to four years. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to sustained weekly engagement and progress throughout the negotiation process.
