EU approves five pan-European defence projects including Cyprus participation

EU member states have approved five major pan-European defence projects, making them eligible for EU funding under the European Defence Industry Programme. The projects focus on drone and anti-drone warfare, protection of Europe’s eastern flank, integrated maritime and seabed defence, air and missile defence with early warning, and space-based defence. Cyprus is involved in four of the five initiatives, excluding the space-based project.

A total of 325 million euros have been earmarked for these projects, which aim to foster cooperation among EU countries on complex defence technologies that would be difficult for a single nation to develop alone. The projects also receive strategic support from partners like Norway and Ukraine.

Cypriot companies already contribute to defence technology sectors related to drones and maritime systems and have showcased their capabilities at international defence exhibitions. The approval of these projects marks a significant step forward in strengthening Europe's collective defence capabilities.
