Larnaka 2030 Organisation seeks fast-track approval for €35 million arts and culture centre
The Larnaka 2030 Organisation has submitted a planning application for an arts and culture centre estimated to cost around 35 million euros. This centre is a key infrastructure project for Larnaca's designation as European Capital of Culture in 2030. Due to the strict timeline of the Capital of Culture title, the organisation has urged state authorities to expedite the permit approval process to avoid delays in tendering and construction.
The proposed centre will span approximately 8,000 square metres on the site of the former refineries. It is designed to be a permanent cultural venue for Larnaca after 2030 and will include an 800-seat theatre, exhibition and artist workspaces, and the Museum of People’s Memory, highlighting the city's multicultural heritage. The design was commissioned by Petrolina and created by Foster + Partners in collaboration with UDS Architects.
Andreas Karakatsanis, Director General of the Larnaka 2030 Organisation, emphasized that any delay in approval could jeopardize the entire schedule, urging all government departments involved to prioritize the application to meet the fixed deadlines associated with the cultural capital project.
