Dangerous Limassol Apartment Block Evacuated After Balcony Collapse
The Interior Ministry has ordered the evacuation of a Limassol apartment block after a balcony on the fifth floor gave way on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 10am at the Roussos Olympic Palace complex on Georgiou Katsounotou Street, with part of the balcony landing on the fourth-floor balcony below. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Emergency services, including police, Civil Defence, and the Fire Service, responded promptly along with officials from the Limassol District Local Government Organisation (DLGO). Following safety assessments, residents have been temporarily relocated for two days as precautionary measures. The occupants of the building are mostly renters.
This is not the first time an accident of this nature has occurred at the complex; a similar balcony collapse was recorded in 2022. The Limassol DLGO is proceeding with further evacuation and safety measures to prevent future incidents.
