Paphos Pomos Reservoir Holds Highest Water Levels Amid Improved Inflows

The Pomos reservoir in Paphos currently has the highest water level among the district's main reservoirs, standing at 67.8 per cent full, according to the Water Development Department. This is followed by the Ayia Marina reservoir at 56 per cent and Argaka at 54.1 per cent. Overall, the district's reservoirs hold about 43.3 million cubic metres of water, reflecting an improvement over last year due to favourable inflows in the 2025-2026 hydrological year.

Despite these gains, authorities continue to carefully manage water reserves to ensure sustainable domestic and irrigation supplies. Water Development Department executive engineer Alexios Frangescou noted there is currently no immediate risk to water availability, highlighting the importance of supplemental sources such as desalination plants and reclaimed water.

However, increased water consumption in 2026 and ongoing drought conditions have pressured the district's water balance. Frangescou emphasized the critical need for long-term water management as natural inflows remain limited and replenishment of reservoirs and underground aquifers is constrained by lower rainfall.
