Limassol wine villages demand increased police and fire service coverage amid staffing concerns

Community leaders from Limassol’s wine villages met with Justice Minister Costas Fitiris to discuss improvements in police and fire service coverage. The current division of policing responsibilities across multiple stations has raised concerns, with calls to unify coverage under the Pachna police station for better coordination. Pachna currently has only one officer on duty after 7pm, prompting demands for increased staffing.

Discussions also focused on fire service infrastructure, including the upcoming Pachna fire station expected to house three fire engines by year-end, plans for a new station at Mallia, and a proposed facility at Avdimou accommodating two fire engines. The region’s large geographical area and agricultural character create unique challenges, especially during summer.

Fitiris emphasized the need for cooperation between government agencies to address security and emergency response needs effectively. Following visits to Pachna’s current and under-construction police stations, the minister stated that proposals from the meeting would be carefully evaluated to enhance service provision in these rural communities.
