Nicosia’s Pedieos Linear Park to Undergo €21 Million Revamp with Footbridges and Recreational Facilities
Nicosia’s Pedieos Linear Park is set to receive a 21 million euro upgrade that will enhance the 11km river path with new footbridges, gardens, playgrounds, sports courts, and more. The project spans 15 areas stretching from the Nicosia Municipal Garden to Anthoupolis and aims to improve walking and cycling infrastructure, biodiversity, and recreational amenities.
The work will be divided into two phases, starting in late 2027 and completing by mid-2030. Key features include resurfacing the path with durable, water-permeable materials, adding 13 footbridges, extending the path by 5.1km, and planting native species over 190,000 square meters. The plan also introduces sports courts, outdoor gyms, event spaces, and facilities like cafés, bike hubs, and electric vehicle chargers.
Municipalities of Nicosia, Strovolos, and Lakatamia will cooperate on the project. Each park area, such as Prodromou Park and Agioi Omologites, will see specific improvements including picnic areas, adventure playgrounds, restored riverbeds, and upgraded crossings. This comprehensive design aims to boost the park's accessibility, safety, and natural environment while encouraging community engagement and outdoor activity.
